At the moment, Finland has a lot of talent in the field of fashion and design. This is why Pre Helsinki nurtures the apparent need for promoting and building a platform from where talented designers and brands can emerge from. This year, also WST was invited to participate in Pre Helsinki, also known as the Helsinki fashion week, as the first ever second hand fashion brand!
There are a lot of events going on the whole week and a great way to get to know the designers and their products is to visit the week-long Pop Up Shop at Artek’s new Flagship store (Keskuskatu 11B), where selected items are for sale. From WST’s collection one finds a curated selection of vintage and second hand products from the iconic fashion house Marimekko. The collection holds items from 7 different decades starting all the way from the 1950’s.
On Monday as we attended the shop’s house warming event it was exciting to notice how well some of the Marimekko second hand and vintage products blended in with the modern designs of emerging fashion designers. Whether it was color or material, the vision to create something unique and interesting is evidently something that all the participants and partners have in common.
As WST represents the idea of reuse and second hand we were also happy to see some of Artek’s second hand design from the 2nd Cycle collection on display. Also hearing how the country manager from Artek used to have the exact same Jokapoika shirt years ago as the one on the racks, made us not only happy but determined how good design can and will stay relevant for a long time.
The Artek pop up shop will be open until Saturday 28 May, so if you have an interest to find unique pieces or just see what’s going on in the Finnish design and fashion scene this is the right place to give a visit.
